The SoulCollage™ Process
Using the SoulCollage process developed by Seena Frost, each artist
creates a unique deck of cards representing different aspects of her
self and soul. These cards can be used like a personal Tarot deck to
access inner wisdom and answer life questions.
The cards are made using found images from magazines and an easy cut
and paste process. The original SoulCollage cards are made on mat board
and are five inches by eight inches in size. This small size makes them
easy to transport, shuffle, and use in readings.
Each deck has one Source Card, a card that symbolizes The One, and
an unlimited number of cards falling into at least four suits that symbolize
The Many, or the multiple parts of the artist’s self and soul. It is
not necessary to know anything about the suits in order to appreciate
the images displayed here. For those that would like to know more, a
brief overview of the SoulCollage deck follows.
The Source Card (The Oneness beyond Dimension)
The Source Card represents the unifying principle and binds all the
other cards into One; it is the whole fabric, all the other cards are
threads. In essence, the Source is mysterious and without form. The
Source card is placed in the center of the table during a reading to
hold the sacred space and symbolize the unifying principle and the interconnectedness
of all things.
The Committee Suit (The Psychological Dimension)
Committee cards represent the inner parts of the artist’s self, the
parts of her personality. These are the parts that chatter in her head,
cheering her on or getting in her way. These parts may feel negative
or challenging, neutral, or clearly positive. By consulting a Committee
card, the artist accesses the wisdom of her psychological self and her
personality.
The Community Suit (The Communal Dimension)
Community cards give image and voice to the real members in the artist’s
community. Community members can be friends, family, ancestors, colleagues,
mentors, teachers, and even pets. They can be living or dead; people
the artist actually knows or people she knows only through their art,
writing, or unique contribution to the world. By consulting a Community
card, the artist accesses that member’s unique wisdom and perspective
on the world.
The Chakra/Companion Suit (The Energetic Dimension)
Each of the Chakra/Companion cards represents one of the seven energy
centers in the body, the chakras. Through guided visualization, the
artist can identify an animal totem or “Companion” for each chakra and
represent it in a card. By consulting a Chakra/Companion card, the artist
accesses the wisdom of the body and the larger energetic realm.
The Council Suit (The Archetypal or Spiritual Dimension)
Council cards consist of the universal archetypes that are influential
in the artist’s life. These are the invisible guides, challengers, creators,
and destroyers who inhabit the spiritual realm and our “collective unconscious”.
They are known in many cultures by many different names. By consulting
a Council card, the artist accesses the wisdom of the spiritual realm
and the collective unconscious.
Other Suits
The SoulCollage process is a framework that can be modified and expanded.
The possibilities are endless – an artist could create a suit that records
her dreams, or the powerful events in her life. One artist in the show,
Vanessa Reeves, created a suit she calls “Place” to represent all of
the geographic places that have special meaning in her life.
SoulCollage cards are made for personal use only and are not for sale.
This is a rare opportunity to see these images in a public setting as
they are more commonly shared in intimate spaces, between close friends
or in small groups.
